It is a medieval hamlet with a great artistic and landscape charm, rich in history and legends, with a castle dedicated to Venus. Erice exerts a particular fascination when thick fog covers it. It is directly linked to Trapani by cableway, easily accessible to everyone and from which a breathtaking view, ranging from the east to the west, can be admired.
Erice is a world famous city for science and culture, thanks to the Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture; moreover, it hosts the “Monterice” car race, an exciting hillclimb race, departing from Valderice up to the top of Mount Erice.
A sequence of alleys with ancient flavours provide the stage for typical pottery shops, “trappite (typical carpets woven with a traditional loom)” shops and pastry shops with their inebriating scents. One among all, the so-called “genovese”: a short pastry sweet, stuffed with cream and covered with powdered sugar. You cannot miss it!
